These Terms of Use ("Terms") are the agreement between you and us for your use of Squatti ("the app"). By downloading, installing or using the app, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

Please read section 4 (safety) and section 6 (alarm reliability). They describe the two real risks of using an app like this one.

1. Short version

  • Squatti is an alarm clock that asks you to do squats to stop the alarm. It counts them with your front camera, on your device.
  • It is not a medical, fitness-advice or emergency product. Exercise carries risk. Use it only if squatting is safe for you.
  • No alarm app can be guaranteed to ring. Do not rely on Squatti alone when missing a wake-up would genuinely harm you.
  • The app is free to download, but using it requires Pro, which is sold and billed by Apple. Pro may be offered as an auto-renewing subscription, as a one-time Lifetime purchase, or both. The options, prices and any free trial shown to you can differ between people, countries and over time.
  • Your alarms and progress stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy at /legal/squat-alarm/privacy/ for what the app does and does not send.

This summary is for convenience. The sections below are what actually applies.

2. Who can use the app

You may use the app if you are at least 13 years old, or older where your local law sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to terms like these. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the app only with the agreement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.

You also need a compatible iPhone running a supported version of iOS and an Apple Account in good standing. Your use of the App Store is governed by Apple's own terms, not by us.

3. What the app does

Squatti lets you create one-time and repeating alarms. When an alarm rings, the app opens a wake-up challenge that uses the front camera to count your squats, and the alarm stops when you finish them.

Things worth knowing before you rely on it:

  • Alarms are scheduled through Apple's system alarm service (AlarmKit). With alarm permission granted, they can ring through Silent mode and Focus.
  • There is no snooze.
  • The app re-rings an alarm, and this cannot be switched off. If you dismiss an alarm without completing your squats, a chain of follow-up alarms queued before the first ring continues for about two hours. Completing your squats cancels the whole chain immediately.
  • There is always a way out. The challenge screen has an emergency skip. It requires you to type a pledge sentence, and it is rationed: three a month, after which the sentence you must type gets longer with each further skip. Skipping counts as a missed wake-up and resets your current streak, but it stops the alarm. You are never locked out of stopping an alarm.
  • Streaks, badges, history and reminders are progress features. They are motivational, not a measurement of health or fitness.

We may add, change or remove features over time. See section 11.

4. Use the app safely

This is the most important section of these Terms.

Squatting is physical exercise, and doing it immediately after waking carries real risk. You are responsible for deciding whether it is safe for you, and for the conditions you do it in.

Before you use the squat challenge:

  • Make sure you have enough clear space to squat without hitting furniture, walls, or anything that could fall.
  • Make sure there is enough light for you to see and move safely.
  • Make sure you have stable footing: a clear, non-slippery surface.
  • Place your phone where it cannot fall on you or be stepped on, and where it does not obstruct your movement.

Do not use the squat challenge if squatting is unsafe or unsuitable for you. This includes, but is not limited to, if you have a heart, blood-pressure, joint, back, knee, balance or dizziness condition, if you are recovering from injury or surgery, if you are pregnant, or if you take medication that affects balance, blood pressure or alertness.

Stop exercising immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, faintness, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, or unwell in any way. Seek medical help if symptoms are serious or continue. Never keep squatting to protect a streak or to silence the alarm.

Nothing in the app requires you to finish the squats. You can stop the alarm at any time with your iPhone's own controls, and the emergency skip on the challenge screen ends the challenge itself. The skip asks you to type a pledge sentence, so if you are unwell, stop moving first and deal with the alarm afterwards.

Set a squat target you can complete comfortably while half awake. You can change it at any time.

Do not let children use the squat challenge unsupervised.

5. Not medical or fitness advice

Squatti is a general alarm and habit tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, physiotherapy, personal training or exercise instruction.

The app does not assess your form, your technique or your physical condition. It counts repetitions from body position only. A repetition the app counts is not a statement that you performed it safely or correctly.

Speak to a doctor or a qualified professional before starting any new exercise routine, particularly if you have a health condition, an injury, or any doubt about whether squats are appropriate for you. Never ignore professional medical advice because of something in this app.

The app is not an emergency service and cannot summon help.

6. Alarm reliability

We cannot guarantee that an alarm will ring.

Whether an alarm rings is decided by your iPhone and by iOS, not by us. It depends on things including:

  • alarm permission being granted and left granted;
  • your ringer and alert volume;
  • your device having power and being switched on;
  • your system, Focus and notification settings;
  • iOS behaviour, updates and any Apple platform changes;
  • the app remaining installed and not being force-quit in a way that affects scheduling.

The app includes an Alarm Check screen so you can test that an alarm actually rings on your device and at your volume. Use it, and use it again after changing your device settings or updating iOS.

Keep an independent backup alarm whenever missing a wake-up would genuinely matter, for example for travel, medication, work, exams, childcare, or any other consequence you cannot afford. Do not use Squatti as a safety-critical alarm.

7. Squat detection has limits

Counting squats from a camera is not exact. Detection depends on lighting, on your clothing, on how much of your body the camera can see, on where the phone is placed, and on how you move.

The app may miss repetitions you complete, or count movement you did not intend as a repetition. The Strict Mode setting makes counting stricter, not perfect.

If detection is not working, for example in a dark room, the emergency skip ends the challenge.

8. Purchases and payment

Squatti is free to download, but using it requires Pro, which is sold through Apple. Depending on what is offered to you, Pro may be available as auto-renewing subscriptions of different lengths (for example monthly or yearly), as a one-time Lifetime purchase, or both. There is no free tier: apart from any free trial, the app's features are available only with an active subscription or a Lifetime purchase.

  • Apple sells and bills these purchases, not us. Available plans, current prices, tax, trial eligibility and billing terms are shown on the App Store purchase sheet before you confirm, and prices can differ by country and storefront. The price shown to you at purchase is the price that applies.
  • Offers can differ. We sometimes test different paywalls, plans, prices and trial offers, so the options shown to you may differ from those shown to other people or at other times. The plan, price and any trial shown to you when you confirm are the ones that apply to your purchase. Changing what we offer later does not change a purchase you have already made; subscription price changes are handled by Apple, which tells you about them under its own rules.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged to your Apple Account within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Where a free trial is offered, its length is shown on the purchase sheet before you confirm. It becomes a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends. Apple decides trial eligibility. A Lifetime purchase has no free trial.
  • Where Lifetime is offered, it is a one-time purchase. It is charged once when you confirm it, it does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel. It is not a subscription.
  • Manage or cancel in your Apple Account subscription settings, or from the Manage Subscription screen in the app, which opens Apple's own sheet.
  • Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. You must cancel through Apple.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. We cannot issue App Store refunds.
  • Restoring purchases: if you reinstall the app or use another device with the same Apple Account, use Restore Purchases to re-check your subscription or Lifetime purchase.

Nothing here removes any statutory right of withdrawal, cancellation or refund you have under consumer law where you live.

9. Your content and your data

You may enter alarm names, a wake-up reason and a drawn signature. That content is yours. It is stored on your device and we do not receive it. See the Privacy Policy at /legal/squat-alarm/privacy/, which forms part of your use of the app.

You are responsible for what you enter. Do not enter unlawful content, or content you do not have the right to use. Because this content stays on your device, we cannot recover it for you if you delete it, reset the app, delete the app, or lose or replace your device.

The app has no accounts, no social features and no way to share your content with other users.

10. Licence and acceptable use

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms and these Terms.

The app, its design, its code, its name and its content belong to us or our licensors. The bundled alarm sounds are either original recordings made for the app or public-domain (CC0) works; their sources are credited in the app's sound licence notes.

You may not:

  • copy, sell, rent, sub-licence or redistribute the app;
  • modify, decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer it, except to the extent that applicable law expressly allows this despite this restriction;
  • work around, disable or interfere with the purchase system, the alarm behaviour, or any other part of the app;
  • use the app unlawfully, or in a way that harms other people or their property.

11. Changes to the app and availability

We may update, change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may stop supporting older versions of iOS or older devices. We do this for reasons including safety, reliability, security, legal compliance and product development.

We do not promise that the app will always be available, that every feature will remain, or that it will work on every device and every version of iOS.

12. Apple's role

You and we agree that:

  • These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price where applicable. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar law.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and resolving any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and may enforce them against you.

Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies where the App Store requires it. Where it conflicts with these Terms, Apple's terms and applicable law take precedence to the extent of the conflict.

13. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind.

In particular, and without limiting section 6, we do not warrant that:

  • an alarm will ring, ring on time, ring at a particular volume, or ring at all in any given circumstance;
  • squat detection will count accurately;
  • the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of defects;
  • the app will produce any particular result for your sleep, your routine, your habits or your fitness.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, those exclusions do not apply to you, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot legally be excluded.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary loss;
  • loss of profits, revenue, opportunity, data, or goodwill;
  • loss or harm arising from a missed, late, silent or failed alarm, including missed work, travel, appointments, medication, exams or other consequences of oversleeping;
  • injury, strain or harm arising from exercise, from the environment you exercise in, or from the position of your device, except where the law does not allow us to exclude this;
  • loss of on-device data, including alarms, history, streaks or your commitment content;
  • the behaviour of iOS, your device, the App Store, or any third-party service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or ten US dollars.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot legally be excluded or limited. Consumer rights that cannot be waived under the law where you live are not affected.

15. Your responsibility for misuse

If you break these Terms and that causes a third-party claim against us, you agree to be responsible for the reasonable, direct costs of that claim, to the extent it results from your breach or your unlawful use of the app. This does not apply where the law where you live does not permit it, and it does not apply to ordinary use of the app in line with these Terms.

16. Ending your use

You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. Remember that deleting the app does not cancel a subscription; cancel that through Apple.

We may suspend or end your licence to use the app if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, or where we must do so by law. Sections that by their nature should survive, including sections 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18, continue to apply after that.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections provided by the law of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing a claim in a court or using a dispute-resolution process available to you under mandatory local consumer law.

18. General

  • Whole agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the app, and replace any earlier version.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply, and the unenforceable part is treated as changed only as far as needed to make it enforceable.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not give it up.
  • Transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Language. These Terms are written in English. A translation is provided for convenience only; the English version applies if there is any difference.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the app, the law, or how we operate changes. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Where a change is significant, we will mark it on this page, which the app opens from Settings → Terms of Use. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
